Opening in conjunction with the 2026 FIFA World Cup held across North America, this exhibition reflects on soccer and food as international languages and informal forms of cultural diplomacy. Both globally understood systems, they have long functioned as points of entry into unfamiliar cultures, creating spaces for exchange, curiosity, and community. Primarily practicing as a printmaker, Henry Rosenberg approaches print as a medium deeply connected to storytelling, journalism, and political satire. In this new body of work, Rosenberg expands his practice into oil painting, drawing inspiration from the historical tradition of European banquet scene painting. Through this medium, the artist engages with the visual language of communal spectacle, ritual, and power that has long defined the genre.

The relationship between the exhibition's location and its broader cultural context is central to the project. Situated alongside a moment of heightened international attention brought on by the World Cup, the works humorously position soccer players as contemporary social agents and symbolic representatives of nations, depicted cooking, sharing meals, and enjoying beverages. Food and sport emerge not only as everyday forms of connection, but also as shared cultural frameworks through which identity, diplomacy, and collective experience are negotiated. Throughout the exhibition, these familiar systems operate as bridges between daily life and the space of contemporary art.
